Baldur's Gate est un jeu de rôle sur PC prenant place dans l'univers de Donjons & Dragons. Le joueur crée un avatar en choisissant parmi diverses classes, compétences et caractéristiques. Le personnage est alors entraîné dans une aventure ou se succèdent phases de dialogue, découverte de la Côte des Epées et combats tactiques. Le jeu propose une grande variété des possibilités d'évolution et d'interaction avec les décors et autres personnages du jeu.
